Translation: “Ivesia” is named for Joseph Christmas Ives (1828-1868), who led the first U.S. government survey of the Colorado River; “argyrocoma” is Greek for “silver-haired,” which describes the foliage.
Notes: Flowering stems grow in a prostrate fashion; they are not just knocked down in this photo. Designated as “rare, threatened, or endangered in California and elsewhere” by the California Native Plant Society.
